... and the drone dead in the water

History: MAvic Pro was clipped by a pick up truck at walking pace 2 feet of the concrete while in the hover. Minor damage being broken anti vibration bracket for camera and abrasions to 2 props

Refired the drone and it was fully operational barring the gimbal mount. Replaced the gimbal mount, and in spite of very careful disassembly, repair and reassembly, status lights inoperable and no connecton with RC

Sent drone to DJI for estimate and was horrified when they called to say lower board with downward sensors needed replacing at a cost close to $500. Found a board at a good price and replaced it (no hammers or crowbars used in repair)

Problem persists. I have gone through every conceivable process to correct to no avail

Drone fires up normally, red lights on but no status lights, props twitch, Drone beeps, but no connection with RC in either RC or WiFi mode. Updated firmware on A/C and RC, still no go. 3 button pairing fails as well

Reset to factory default also fails.

Any assistance will be much appreciated

What color light comes on in the rear LED? Can you take a screenshot of DJI Go 4?

Hi Rob. Zero lights at the rear under any conditions, and it also appears that the cooling fan is non op as well. Will get a screenshot shortly

Oh thats not good. The cooling fan should kick on after around 2 minutes or 106° on the bottom plate heat sink.

Sounds like there might be something going on in addition or other then the core board issue, or maybe a combination of things. Combinations of issues are the hardest to troubleshoot.

Can you still return the new core board? I can take a look at the drone for you if you want to send it to me.

20190911_152221.jpg Appreciate the input, but unfortunately, being retired and on the verge of homeless, my budget doesn't allow me much more for much more in the way of repairs

Also, the issues I have now are exactly the same as I had with the old board, so I suspect there is probably nothing wrong with the original

Update: There are 3 ribbon cables that attach at the front of the core board. looking down at the attachment points it is the one on the left. After checking it with a magnifying glass, the cable contact appears to be damaged. Could that be a cause??

Update: As this cable is clearly damaged, I have torn down the drone and moved the fan out of the way to install all new ribbon cables, expected to arrive in a few days

Update: Installed the new cable and put all the pieces back together, and fired up the drone

Status lights working normally, fan operational , and link to tablet effected. Tried a take off (no props) and the motors fired up with no problem. All other functions (according to feedback on the tablet) are nominal, so the drones appears to be in good shape

Only problem is no connection with the RC controller. Tried everthing I could think of but zilch

OK managed to bind RC to the drone, but now getting the follwing errors:

    Forward left vision sensor error
    Forward right vision sensor error
    Vision system error

Update2: Found a connector not seated. Corrected and reached a point where drone appears flyable. Still getting the odd issues regarding calibration etc though. Wont try flying until resolved

First test flight, no anomalies. Smooth as silk. Any repair is easy with a lot of research, a little help, and a tremendous amount of care.

Doing some further tests tomorrow with goggles and tablet.

Right now I am a pretty happy camper

Uhuh Getting back into the swing of things again when the drone was at about 80' behaving normally when it suddenly started flying in circles going it's own way, ending in a high speed crash. Damage is not too bad, a broken foot, one rear arm damaged and the camera ribbon cable shredded. Happily it will still fly in spite of a damaged prop, and all systems seem to be working again. Back to the drawing board

Don, that was probably a compass that needed to be calibrated. It usually does that if it takes off without being calibrated or loses calibration after take off.

Actually Rob, it was a blunder by myself. Had the damned thing in ATTI mode, got it too high and lost orientation. It was all I could do to bring it down, and thankful that the damage was minimal considering the impact. All systems barring camera are working, so set it into GPS/NOOB mode for the start once repairs are done

Good thing about tear downs is that you learn more with each one
